Winter Storm Winds Knock Out Power Friday Night & Saturday Across The Area

Wind gusts in the 40 to 60 mph range were responsible for two different outages Friday night and Saturday morning.

604 Blue Ridge Electric members around Blowing Rock were affected by an outage in the Green Hill Road, Possum Hollow Road , Sunset Road areas after a tree to fell through a power line on Friday night.  The outages started at 9:53 pm and all were back on 10:20 pm.

Power outages were also reported in the Niley Cook Road area early Saturday morning. Power was off at 6:22 am and restored at 7:18 am. A dead tree fell through the lines due to very high winds, according to Blue Ridge Electric.

Another outage in Boone on Friday night impacted the Watauga High & South Caldwell basketball game, as well as surrounding areas.  A transformer blew at a nearby apartment complex close to WHS leaving that portion of Boone without power for a period of time.
