Watauga County Commissioners Approve Use Of Old WHS Site For Upcoming ASU Thursday Night Football Games Parking, More Details To Come

The old Watauga High School site will play a part in the logistics of an upcoming parking situation regarding Thursday night football games at ASU. In June it was announced that two ASU games would be played on Thursday night this season. The games against Georgia Southern, which takes place on October 22nd, and Arkansas State, on November 5th, will kick off at 7:30pm at Kidd Brewer Stadium. Both games will air nationally on ESPNU.

Officials with ASU and the Town of Boone have been working to develop a plan to address parking and traffic related issues, both on campus and in Boone for many months. On Thursday August 6, Watauga County Commissioners approved a request to use the old WHS property. In approving the request the Commissioners noted the financial impact that area business might receive, along with the national media attention, surrounding the games.

Mike Flynn, ASU Sports Information Director, tells WataugaRoads.com that plans regarding parking have not yet been finalized.

The weeknight games will be the 3rd and 4th in Kidd Brewer Stadium history, the first since 2008, and the first since ASU became a member of the Sun Belt.
