408 PM EDT TUE MAY 29 2018
The National Weather Service in BLACKSBURG has issued a
* Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for Poor Drainage Areas
Watauga County in northwestern North Carolina…
* Until 800 PM EDT
* At 407 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to showers
and a few thunderstorms. UP to an inch per hour was falling in
showers and thunderstorms moving north from Caldwell County. This
will cause urban and small stream flooding. Overflowing poor
drainage areas will result in minor flooding in the advisory area.
* Some locations that will experience flooding include…
and Sugar Grove.
In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.
When it is safe to do so, please send your reports of flooding,
including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National Weather Service
by calling toll free at 1…8 6 6…2 1 5…4 3 2 4. Reports and
pictures can also be shared on the National Weather Service
Blacksburg Facebook page and on Twitter.
A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or ponding
of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.
