5:30 pm Monday, December 10, 2018 - Main roads are much improved from Monday morning with no reported issues at 5:30 pm. Secondary roads vary, many are still in not good condition even with the sunshine today, and gravel roads remain covered. NWS warns, in a Winter Weather Advisory (wataugaonline.com/winter-weather-advisory-in-effect-from-6pm-tonight-until-noon-tuesday-dec-10-11...), that black ice can be expected on roadways and untreated and secondary roads will remain covered with ice and snow.
If you have a question or report about a travel route from 5:30 pm Monday through the overnight and into Tuesday morning please leave it here.
Also two other friendly reminders: If you send a direct message to this page it may not be able to be answered in a timely manner due to many inquiries, making a comment on this status is the best way to find an answer to your possible question.
Also, this Facebook page is a part of the WataugaOnline.com media outlets and is not affiliated with or maintained by any Watauga County government office, North Carolina government office, transportation organization or NCDOT. I get LOTS of inbox questions about when a state or town road might get scraped or plowed.
Those routes are handled by NCDOT and Town of Boone and as a media outlet I report what I know and can't always answer individual questions.
Watauga County Schools - Due to the number of snow and ice covered roads still across our county and district, there will be no school for students on Tuesday, December 11th. It will be an Optional Teacher Workday. Teachers and staff may report on a two hour delay to ensure safe travels to work.
The Holiday/ Snowday Program at Hardin Park is scheduled to open at 7:30A.
As a reminder, schools will be in session on Thursday, January 3rd and Friday, January 4th following the holiday break. For those families that have already made plans to be away on those days, we ask that you please work with your teachers to make up any missed assignments. wataugaonline.com/closingscancellations/...
