Snow, Ice Removal Continues in Northwestern NC

Last Updated on January 28, 2014 1:26 pm

While the N.C. Department of Transportation continues de-icing operations throughout the northwestern part of the state today, some crews from that region will head east to assist with snow and ice removal.

Division 11, which includes Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Caldwell, Surry, Watauga, Wilkes and Yadkin counties, will send several crews this afternoon to eastern North Carolina, where they're expecting heavy snow. The crews from Division 11 will be pulled from the division's non-mountain counties.

Remaining crews in Division 11 will continue de-icing operations that have been ongoing for several days. Multiple counties in the division are reporting snowfall today, and crews have already begun clearing snow and ice from primary and secondary roads.

Motorists are asked to be on the lookout for possible icy patches on interstates, primary and secondary roads.

Travelers are asked NOT to call 911 or the State Highway Patrol for road conditions. The lines must remain clear for emergency calls.
