Overturned Tractor-Trailer Leads To Delays On 421 Friday

Last Updated on July 14, 2017 7:47 pm

The driver of a tractor-trailer is reportedly ok after overturning on highway 421 just after noon.

The accident, just past Stoney Fork Road in Deep Gap, occurred around 12:30pm at a location with a lengthy history of tractor-trailer wrecks. No other vehicles were involved, according to both scanner dispatches and Deep Gap Fire Public Information Officer Jonathan Hodges. Hodges tells WataugaOnline.com that the driver refused transport by Watauga Medics.

Witness saw smoke coming from the truck’s wheels and then the truck overturned, according to a published report. That report goes on to say that the 51-year-old driver from Miami is the owner-operator of the truck, a contractor for a Florida company in Dade City, and was cited for driving left of center and inadequate brakes.

Traffic traveling southbound was detoured for at least two hours around Stoney Fork to Mount Zion, until one lane could be shifted into the northbound lane, according to Hodges.

Deep Gap Fire, Watauga Medics, Watauga Rescue, State Highway Patrol, Watauga County Sheriff’s Office, Watauga County Emergency Management, NCDOT and Champion Fire Department from Wilkes County responded to the scene.
