Local Black Bear Sightings On The Rise, Local Residents Share Videos & Photos

Last Updated on June 27, 2017 10:18 pm

A number of local residents have documented recent bear sightings and shared their encounters with WataugaOnline.com.

But first a side note – It was a little more than a year ago when Sugar Mountain resident Christa South shared with WataugaOnline.com her encounter with a bear getting locked in her car and destroying it, thankfully none of the recent encounters had to endure that.

Tracy Brown shared with WataugaOnline.com his videos and said, “It happen out 221 near Westglow. Same bear came by 5 different times within a couple hours. They'll come by when the seasonal folks start coming back and laying out the smorgasbord. Once everybody takes in their bird seed and suet, the bear will usually move on. I heard him on my deck while I was watching a movie. Once I got to the screen door, I realized what it was I thought, “neighbor, you can help yourself.” Very cool though.”
