Flash Flood Watch Until Tuesday Morning For Watauga & Ashe – Aug 20 to Aug 21, 2018

…FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT THROUGH LATE TONIGHT…

The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for portions of North Carolina and Virginia.

Including the following areas, in North Carolina, Alleghany NC, Ashe, Caswell, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry, Watauga, Wilkes, and Yadkin.

In Virginia, Carroll, Floyd, Franklin, Grayson, Halifax, Henry, Montgomery, Patrick, Pittsylvania, and Roanoke.

* Through late tonight

* Thunderstorms will produce periods of heavy rain with excessive
rainfall rates expected.

* Streams and creeks may rapidly rise out of their banks and flood nearby roadways. Poor drainage areas may also quickly
become flooded with deep water. Excessive ponding of water on roadways will make driving hazardous.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding.
