A farming accident has claimed the life of a Wilkes County veteran law enforcement officer.
Rex Oliver Stanley, 56, died when a chain he was using to pull a tree from a stream broke and struck him in the head, the Wilkes Journal Patriot reports.
Stanley retired from the North Wilkesboro Police Department, and was working as a correctional officer at the Wilkes Correctional Center since March 2014.
