Below are videos from the final live performance in Boone of SURGE, as written and performed by the Watauga High Playmakers, on Saturday, March 1, 2025.
“Surge” is based on their experiences during Hurricane Helene and includes an original song written by three of the ensemble members.
After winning at the Regional North Carolina Theatre Conference (NCTC) competition and the State NCTC competition, they next head to Baltimore Maryland later this month.

- Music by Bela Fleck “The Overgrown Waltz, Flatland Cavalry
“Mountain Song:” John Denver” “Take me home, Country Roads”
* This piece is inspired by the phrase “With and For” that was given to me by Zach Walker and Sarah Miller. In our little mountain community, we work together to create an environment where everyone is loved and taken care of.
Thank you to those whose voices are mentioned in the music. Even after such devastation our community continues to work with and for each other.
