The National Weather Service in Blacksburg, Virginia issued the following Hazardous Weather Outlook at 4:21 a.m. Saturday for north central and northwest North Carolina, including Watauga County, along with southwest and west central Virginia and southeast West Virginia:
Counties covered: Ashe, Alleghany, Surry, Stokes, Watauga, Wilkes and Yadkin in North Carolina; Tazewell, Smyth, Bland, Giles, Wythe, Pulaski, Montgomery, Grayson, Carroll, Floyd, Craig, Alleghany, Bath, Roanoke, Botetourt, Patrick, Franklin, Mercer, Summers, Monroe, and Eastern and Western Greenbrier in Virginia and West Virginia.
Day One… Today and Tonight
Thunderstorms developing late tonight may produce heavy rain within a short period of time, which could result in localized flash flooding of creeks and other flood prone areas. The threat will be highest near the crest of the Blue Ridge, but may occur anywhere across the mountains or foothills of the Blue Ridge.
Days Two Through Seven… Sunday Through Friday
Thunderstorms developing each afternoon and evening during the early half of the coming week will be capable of producing frequent lightning, localized damaging wind gusts, and pockets of heavy rain that may result in flash flooding.

Spotter activation may be needed beginning early Sunday morning.
