Wednesday Morning Weather Update

Last Updated on October 19, 2011 10:37 am

It's a cold, rainy and windy day in the High Country. The National Weather Service continues to forecast 70% chance of rain and possible thunderstorms this afternoon. Temps are much cooler today than yesterday with most of the local home weather reporting stations on Weather Underground reporting lower to mid 50s (as of 10:30am)

The rain and wind are also taking a toll on the leaves, with the sights of bare or almost bare trees becoming the norm. Because of the high winds a Wind Advisory is in effect from midnight tonight until 4pm Thursday.

And we still have the possibility of snow Thursday and Friday. Here's the NWS forecast for Boone:

Today: A chance of showers, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 59. Southeast wind between 5 and 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tonight: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 36. West wind between 11 and 18 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Thursday: Rain and snow showers likely, becoming all rain after 9am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 47. West wind between 15 and 18 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Thursday Night: A chance of showers, mainly before 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 36. West wind around 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Friday: A slight chance of rain and snow showers before 8am, then a slight chance of rain showers between 8am and 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 50. Northwest wind between 8 and 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
