Storm Prediction Center Storm Reports

During Friday's outbreak of severe weather the Storm Prediction Center received over 700 reports from across the country. Nationally SPS received 97 tornado reports, 256 wind reports, 429 hail reports for a total of 782 total reports on Friday alone.

The High Country was spared from any severe weather, but to our south it's a different story. Swain, Jackson, Macon, Transylvania & Cherokee counties all sustained damage in Southwestern North Carolina.

According to reports sent into SPC:

In Transylvania County damage was reported to a home that included windows broken and a garage collapsed. Trees and power lines were reported down too.

In Cherokee County the town of Murphy a possible tornado damaged several buildings and destroyed a number of homes. Numerous trees were also reported down.

In Macon County golf ball size hail was reported and trees down.
