Law enforcement officials tell WataugaRoads.com, that a Lenoir officer called the Watauga Sheriff's office on Sunday advising that he was out with a male who claimed he had “shot someone somewhere on Stony Fork Road.” Watauga Deputies checked the road on the Watauga side but found nothing.

The Wilkes Journal Patriot reports  that Donnie Ellis Ward, 41, of 1913 Swan Dr., Lenoir, was taken into custody late Sunday afternoon and arrested early Monday morning. Ward was in the Wilkes County Jail without bond late Monday morning.

Ward is alleged to have shot Eleuterio Vasquez Petrez, 38, of 306 Abernathy St., Lenoir with a medium caliber handgun in the Mount Zion community of southwestern Wilkes County.
