Over Yonder Restaurant in Valle Crucis to close due to Hurricane Helene impacts

Many residents and businesses continue to feel the varying impacts of Hurricane Helene, which passed through western North Carolina three months ago.

Those impacts have led to the announcement that the restaurant Over Yonder in Valle Crucis will have to close. “It is with a heavy heart we announce we will be closing the doors of Over Yonder on Saturday, January 11th.”, the owners said in a statement.

In deciding to close the statement also said, “It’s no secret that we’ve been struggling to survive as a business in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.  So many in our community are.  The debris piles and washed-out bridges we see everyday serve as constant reminders that we are far from “business as usual” in WNC, and losing October just isn’t something we can financially overcome, leaf money is what keeps the heat on and the staff paid through the Winter.”

Over Yonder opened in that location in June of 2014.

The closing is another sad storm-related milestone for the Valle Crucis community. Extensive damage at Valle Crucis School left those buildings unusable. Those students have been meeting in three different locations in the county, including the Valle Crucis Conference Center.

Also, extensive damage at Valle Crucis Methodist Church requires major repairs as their congregation meets at Holy Cross Episcopal Church.
