Today NCDOT announced contracts to resurface 23.5 miles of roads in Alleghany and Ashe counties.
The $2.5 million contract was awarded to Maymead Inc. of Mountain City, Tenn. Work can begin as early as April 30 and be completed by Sept. 28.
The following roads in Alleghany County will be resurfaced:
3.4 miles of U.S. 21 in Twin Oaks from U.S. 221 to the Virginia state line;
3.4 miles of Glade Valley Road in Glade Valley from U.S. 21 to Scenic Valley Road;
1.8 miles of N.C. 18 between Sparta and Ennice from Chestnut Grove Church Road to Fender Road;
0.9 miles of U.S. 221 in Twin Oaks from U.S. 21 to N.C. 93;
0.7 miles of North Sparta Parkway in Sparta from N.C. 18 to U.S. 21; and
0.4 miles of North Sparta Parkway in Sparta from Grandview Drive to N.C. 18.
The following roads in Ashe County will be resurfaced:
2.9 miles of U.S. 221 near New River State Park in Scottsville from New River Bridge to Tom Fowler Rd
2.1 miles of Beaver Creek School Road near West Jefferson from Golf Course Road to N.C. 194;
1.7 miles of N.C. 194 in Lansing from the Lansing city limits to McNeil Road;
1.4 miles of West Deep Ford Road in Lansing from the west end of the bridge to N.C. 194;
1.3 miles of U.S. 221 Business in West Jefferson from U.S. 221 to Hamilton Street;
1.2 miles of Buffalo Road in Smethport from Lewis Road to N.C. 88;
1.2 miles of Old N.C. 16 in Jefferson from the Jefferson city limits to Johnson Hollow;
0.5 miles of Mount Jefferson Road in Jefferson from U.S. 221 to U.S. 221 Business;
0.2 miles of Staggs Creek Road in Warrensville from Teaberry Road to N.C. 88;
0.2 mile of Little Horse Creek in Lansing from Long Branch to South Big Horse Creek; and
0.1 miles of N.C. 194 in West Jefferson from East 7th Street to the West Jefferson city limits.
This is one of 30 contracts totaling $82.6 million for highway and bridge projects across North Carolina.
