N.C. 105 Temporarily Closed in Watauga County

UPDATE Friday April 12 – The N.C. Department of Transportation has extended the closures of U.S. 321 and N.C. 105 until at least the evening of Sunday April 14. More information at this link.

UPDATE Wednesday April 10 7:30am –  N.C. 105 will remain temporarily closed today (Wednesday, April 10, 2024) between Broadstone Road and Old Shulls Mill Road for emergency repairs.


BANNER ELK – A contract crew for the N.C. Department of Transportation has temporarily closed N.C. 105 between Broadstone Road and Old Shulls Mill Road for emergency repairs.

The stretch of roadway is expected to remain closed until at least 6 a.m. tomorrow.

Wright Brothers Construction Company Inc. has been performing daily safety operations, removing rock and material from slopes as part of the N.C. 105 bridge replacement project over the Watauga River.

Digital message boards and flagging crews are on-site providing work zone information and detours.

Drivers are encouraged to check DriveNC.gov for closure updates, and alternate routes and follow NCDOT on social media.
