On Thursday, February 8th, the Meat Camp Fire Department, along with Watauga County Emergency Management, responded to a call for two missing children in the Meat Camp area. They were assisted on scene by Watauga Rescue, Linville Central Search K9, Elk Knob Park Rangers, and the Watauga County Sheriff's Office.
The search began when the two children, whose identities are withheld for privacy reasons, wandered from their residence located in the 4000 block of Meat Camp Road shortly before 7:00 P.M.
Concerned family members alerted authorities, issuing a coordinated search and rescue operation
that lasted approximately 2.5 hours, the children were located just over 3 miles from their home. There were no injuries reported, and both children were reunited with their family.
