Major repair operations continue on Highway 421 between Boone and Mountain City, TN.
WataugaOnline reported on Friday that paving operations were underway for a section of road between Trade and Mountain City. At the time Maymead Materials referred to the work as the “first major repair”.
In an update today (Monday October 21, 2024) the company stated, “Our next big hurdle on 421: a 90 foot deep failure requiring a massive amount of material to completely rebuild the bank that washed away.”
Maymead also mentioned the work of partner Baker's Construction Services by saying they “have already made significant progress placing stone but as you can see, we have a long way to go.”
Maymead's statement also went on to say, “It may seem like a slow process but the sheer amount of material that has been moved and placed on this small stretch of roadway alone is unprecedented. We continue to make significant strides and are so proud of our people for rising to the mountainous task ahead of us.”
Baker's Construction Services also posted a video update on Monday, which you can view below.
