High Country Gas Prices Fall Again to $3.44 — Down Every Week for Nearly Two Months

Last Updated on July 8, 2026 8:07 am

Gas prices in the High Country continue their weeks-long decline, with the Boone-area low for regular unleaded dropping to $3.44 per gallon Wednesday morning — down 5 cents from last week's $3.49 low.

Multiple stations are at $3.44, including Sheetz on Chestnut Drive, Speedway on NC-105 South, Exxon on Blowing Rock Road, and two Circle K locations on Blowing Rock Road and State Farm Road. Quality Plus locations are at $3.45, with Circle K on NC-105 South and the 76 station in Blowing Rock at $3.49.

The North Carolina average stands at $3.481 per gallon, according to AAA — down from $3.504 last week. The national average is $3.790, down from $3.847 last week. Prices have now fallen every week for nearly two months.

Diesel prices also eased. The county's diesel low dropped to $4.89 per gallon at multiple stations, including Sheetz, Circle K, Speedway in Blowing Rock, and Thompson Gas/Mountain Oil on East King Street. Most other Boone-area stations are ranging from $4.99 for diesel.

Despite the continued declines, prices remain above last year's levels. The steady downward trend has provided meaningful relief at the pump compared to the peak prices seen earlier this spring.
