A head on crash involving two vehicles caused motorist delays on 321 between Boone and Blowing Rock on Friday night (Oct 23,2015).

Boone Fire and EMS units were the first to be dispatched to the scene at Chandler Concrete, located at 3587 321 South, just before 7:30pm. Along with other responding agencies, two rescue helicopters were also dispatched to the scene. According to scanner dispatches at the time there were three people involved in the accident.

For a period of time that section of 321 was closed to allow for helicopter landings, and then was narrowed down to 2 lanes before opening back up totally around 11pm.

A law enforcement source late Friday night confirmed one fatality, but no other information was available as of Saturday morning. A family member of the deceased has also confirmed the fatality, but WataugaRoads.com is not printing the name until it is released by North Carolina SHP or a local funeral home.
