Foscoe Fire Department, Watauga County Sheriff's Deputies and the North Carolina Highway Patrol responded to a wreck on Daisy Ridge Road in Valle Crucis late Friday night that claimed the life of an area girl.

According to the Sheriff's office, an elderly female and her 13 year old granddaughter were involved in the accident. The elderly female, the teen's grandmother, survived but the teen did not. The girl has been identified as Lauren Jaquays, a student at Blowing Rock Elementary School.

According to a report, Jaquays was standing up through the vehicles sunroof when her grandmother ran off an embankment. The vehicle overturned onto girl, and she passed away at the scene. The accident occurred on a private road in a gated community.

A bus will be taking Lauren's classmates, their families, and others from Blowing Rock School to the Temple of the High Country on Monday for the memorial service. It departs at 10:15am.
