5am – snow continues to fall and still plenty of snow covered and slick areas from overnight. If you can avoid early morning travel it is advised.

5:26am – Watauga County Communications dispatch office still reporting many slick and snow covered roads from overnight. Also advising to delay early morning travel if possible.

5:53am – no reported power outages in Ashe, Avery or Watauga in the Blue Ridge Electric service area. 61 in Alexander, 11 in Caldwell.

5:56am from an incoming social media report – “321N/421 from skateworld to wilkesboro covered and SLICK!!!!! DEEP GAP ICE UNDER SNOW!!!!”

6:09am from an incoming social media report – “Hwy 105 from Foscoe to Sugar Mt. covered and slick with heavy wet snow.”

6:33am – from police scanner – Several cars are stuck on Brown’s Chapel Road due to slick conditions.

7am – not a lot has changed since 5am. Snow and sleet continues to fall, main (including the major travel routes) & secondary roads are snow covered and slick still.

8am – conditions are starting to improve a little since 5am. Temps in Boone are right at the freezing mark, slightly above in other locations in the county. Still getting reports of slick roads, both main and secondary. Forecast high temps are mid 40s with snow turning to rain later today.

No construction operations today on 321 in Blowing Rock due to recent winter storm conditions. Call 828-964-3260 for project information.

8:17am from Boone Police – Main roads are in decent shape. Secondary roads & parking lots are snow covered & very slick. Use caution this morning while driving.

9am – Per reports over the last hour road conditions are much better than between 5am-7am. Main roads are clear for the most part, secondary roads are still partially to totally snow covered, gravel roads are covered.

 

Here’s a look at the previous record snow totals for this date from the State Climate Office. Some of these records will be broken, and all of the Top 5 may be replaced when snow totals for this storm  are tallied up

10am – have not received any reports of travel/road issues in the last hour and half. There's plenty of slushy areas, and more to come as the snow turns to rain as the day goes along. Careful also on porches,steps etc for slushy slick spots.
