- At 1036 AM EST, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain ongoing that
will cause flooding. Two to three inches of rain have already
fallen with an additional one to two inches possible over the
next 12 hours. Flooded low-lying roadways, rockslides, and
landslides will be possible. Rapid rises on the Watauga river are

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.
When it is safe to do so, please send your reports of flooding,
including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National Weather Service
