Several local fire departments were kept busy with overlapping fires on Monday.
Between 11:30 am and noon, crews from Cove Creek, Zionville, and Beaver Dam were dispatched to a brush fire that had gotten out of control on Frozenhead Ridge Road. During that same time frame, crews from those fire departments, along with Todd Fire, Trade Fire, Boone Fire, were dispatched to a structure fire at 620 Slabtown Road.
Regarding the first fire, a call came in to dispatch at 11:36 am regarding a brush fire climbing the ridge on Frozenhead Ridge Rd in Sugar Grove. It was contained via fire line containing it to a couple of acres by 12:30 pm. Cove Creek and Watauga Fire Marshall’s Office responded to the scene as other departments dispatched to a nearby structure fire at the same time.
Regarding the second fire, a call came in at approximately 11:45 am alerting dispatch of a structure fire with visible flames at 620 Slabtown Rd in Zionville, according to Kristi Pukansky with Watauga Emergency Services. Responding units were able to control the fire at approximately 12:50 pm. The fire originated in the basement, and the cause is under investigation. Responding units included Zionville, Watauga Medics, Watauga FM, Cove Creek, Beaver Dam, Watauga County Rescue Squad, Boone Fire, Watauga County Sheriff’s Office, and Trade VFD.
