An early Sunday morning single vehicle wreck has claimed the life of a Holly Springs man, while the driver is behind bars on multiple charges.

The accident occurred shortly after 1:30am around the 1500 block of Poplar Grove Road when a 2004 Hyundai driven by Juliana Groce, age 22, of Charlotte attempted a left hand turn on Poplar Grove Road at a high rate of speed, according to published reports. The vehicle left the road, struck a guardrail and came to a stop after hitting a tree. 20-year-old Warrick Louis Fister, the passenger, was pronounced dead a short time later at Johnson City Medical Center.

Groce has been charged with assault on a government official, DWI, failure to maintain lane control and failure to appear in court on a charge of possession of marijuana. A report from the Watauga County Sheriff's office says Groce kicked a Deputy, which lead to the assault on a government official charge.
