The Watauga Medical Center weather reporting station reached 80 degrees on Saturday for the first time this year.
The reading, which occurred shortly after 3pm and lasted for nearly two hours, is about a month earlier than in 2016 and nearly two months earlier than in 2015. In 2016 the mark was recorded on May 27, and June 13th in 2015.
The weather station used for official temperature records, Boone 1SE, topped out at 79 degrees. The highest recorded temperature for April is 89 degrees on April 27, 1942. The highest all time temperature is 96 on July 10, 1936.
