Lenoir, North Carolina (April 14, 2025) – Blue Ridge Energy is joining electric cooperatives across the state in honoring the dedicated lineworkers who help power the homes, schools and businesses across their communities.
Governor Josh Stein has officially proclaimed the second Monday in April as Lineworker Appreciation Day in North Carolina, recognizing the critical role lineworkers play in delivering safe and reliable electricity throughout the state.
“Cooperative lineworkers take on the critical task of maintaining an intricate power system to keep the lights on in our communities,” said Renee Walker, director of public relations for Blue Ridge Energy. “Their selfless response during the most challenging conditions helps ensure the reliable power we all depend on. This day is a great opportunity to recognize their dedication and thank them for their service,” she added.
Blue Ridge Energy employs over 50 lineworkers across its service territory, maintaining 8,000 miles of line to connect local communities and provide reliable electricity to co-op members.
Beyond installing and repairing electrical power lines, lineworkers play a vital role in inspecting and maintaining the infrastructure that powers their communities. To prepare for these responsibilities, cooperative lineworkers undergo extensive training, including formal apprenticeships that last between five to seven years, as well as 14 weeks of on-site classes with a job training and safety team.
In recognition of Lineworker Appreciation Day, Blue Ridge Energy and electric cooperatives across the state encourage everyone to take a moment to thank these dedicated individuals for their commitment to keeping the lights on and powering the lives of those they serve.
Blue Ridge Energy is a member-owned electric cooperative serving approximately 80,000 members across Caldwell, Watauga, Ashe, and Alleghany counties, as well as parts of Wilkes, Avery, and Alexander counties. For more information, visit www.BlueRidgeEnergy.com.
