Fifth grade teacher, Anne Sukow, received grant funds last Spring to purchase books for Bethel School students to participate in the Global Read Aloud project. In the fall, students from all over the world read the same books and connected with peers in and out of their school building to discuss the books.
The theme of this year's books was resilience. Inspired by the theme, Sukow organized a service project for Bethel School students. Each classroom collected change to donate to the WCSO's Police Explorers program.
On Thursday, Jan. 25, Sukow, her fifth grade students and principal, Ricky Ward, presented the WCSO with their donation. Accepting the donation were Carlos Escobar (Boone PD), Lieutenant Toby Ragan (WCSO), Jonathan Hayes (Blowing Rock PD), James Parker (WCSO) and Captain Preston Russell (WCSO).
“Bethel School is proud of the hard work for the support of the Police Explorers program that Mrs. Sukow and our students put into this fundraising effort,” Ward said.
Bethel School is truly a small school with a big heart!
