Boone, North Carolina (August 27, 2024) – Possible lane closures may be needed for public and electric worker safety beginning at 8 am through possibly noon Thursday, August 29th as aerial marker balls are installed on power lines crossing Hwy 421 near Food Lion and Blue Ridge Energy’s new Rutherwood substation.
The large, orange marker balls are being installed primarily for the safety of transportation helicopters, low flying airplanes and medevac helicopters that transport patients in emergency situations. The balls make power lines more visible to low-flying airplanes and helicopters.
A special helicopter crew has been contracted to install the marker balls from the air.
Blue Ridge Energy thanks the public for their patience during the installation and possible lane closures Thursday morning while this important safety work is being conducted.
Blue Ridge Energy is a member-owned electric cooperative, serving some 80,000 members in Caldwell, Watauga, Ashe, Alleghany, Alexander, Avery, and Wilkes counties. Learn more at BlueRidgeEnergy.com.
