The Avery County Sheriff's Office is warning of a Facebook scam pertaining to a live stream of a funeral.
There are five fake Facebook pages claming to live streaming the Greene family funeral and requesting that you donate money in order to view it.
This funeral is not being live streamed and no donations are being requested, according to the Sheriff's Office. This is a complete hoax perpetrated by unknown individuals at this time.
The Sheriff's Office is currently checking into identifying these individuals in an effort to pursue any possible criminal violations.
Anyone who may have donated to these accounts are asked to contact Detective Lt. Frank Catalano at 737-0134 EXT 1218. If after hours, leave a detailed message.
