The National Weather Service has issued two alerts for the High Country — a Wind Advisory that remains in effect through 4 p.m. today and a Freeze Watch issued for late Monday night through Tuesday morning.
The Wind Advisory covers Watauga, Ashe, and Alleghany counties through 4 p.m. Sunday. Northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph are expected. Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects, bring down tree limbs, and cause isolated power outages. High-profile vehicles should use extra caution on the roads.
The Freeze Watch goes into effect late Monday night and continues through Tuesday morning. Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 30 degrees are possible. Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation, and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
Residents are advised to secure outdoor objects today and take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold ahead of Monday night.
