Wet Memorial Day 2018 Weekend On Tap, Heavy Rain Could Lead To Localize Flooding

Last Updated on May 25, 2018 1:51 pm

Showers and thunderstorms this weekend into next week will bring a return of a heavy rain threat with localized flooding possible, according to the National Weather Service. The track of a tropical system may have major impacts on how much rain we get and the overall flood threat next week too, NWS adds.

Shower and storm activity is expected to pick up on Saturday as a series of weak short waves will move up from the south and bring good coverage of diurnally biased showers and thunderstorms for the weekend, the Weather Service says in a Friday update. A deep flow of moisture is expected into the Appalachians well into next week as the tropical system currently in the Gulf could also bring heavy rain into the area for Wednesday and Thursday.

Residents in the areas where recent heavy rains lead to flooding are reminded to be weather aware the next several days, as waters could quickly rise once again during the time period of Saturday through Thursday.
