Motorists traveling on I-77 Northbound into Virginia are advised to seek alternate routes after a tractor trailer accident in Virginia closed a portion of the interstate Friday morning near the state line.
A tractor-trailer hauling lumber caught fire around mile marker seven in Virginia. No portion of I-77 Northbound is closed in North Carolina, but the closure in Virginia is causing backup and delays in Surry County.
The road is expected to open completely by 4 p.m. today.
Motorists traveling on I-77 can use the following detour:
Take Exit 100, which is N.C. 89, heading North;
Follow NC-89 to U.S. 52 and travel west;
Take U.S. 52 West into Virginia and turn left onto SR-148; and
Follow SR-148 back to I-77 (Exit 8).
