8:42am – From Watauga County Communications Facebook page: 0830: Several cars stuck on the Blue Ridge Parkway at or near mile marker 284.5. Please do not take 2 wheel drive cars on the back roads unless you have snow tires and or chains.

8am – from facebook post – “Just came from Crossnore to Boone. 221 snow covered. 105 snow covered to Foscoe where the roads are wet with slush in the middle. Covered again from there. Town of Boone roads slush covered. Be careful out there!! Windy and white out conditions–If you don't have to get out– DON'T!!!”

From Watauga County Communications -0742: report of a dually pickup blocking one lane at Bamboo Rd and Brook Hollow Rd.
7:39am – tractor trailer is still stuck in a ditch at Wilson's Ridge/Deerfield, first reported at 6:15am
7:36am – Watauga County offices are opening at 10am
7:34am – from a post to the facebook page “421 in Vilas is very slick. 15 minute commute took almost an hour.”
7:22am – conditions are still brutal out there. High winds, falling snow, blowing snow, wind chills forecast to be in single digits, slick roads, whiteout conditions at times. Best advice stay safe and enjoy a snow day if you can.

Schools closed. Main roads have been scraped but still are snow covered. Secondary roads have not been scraped for the most part. They are slick and we recommend that you not travel unless you must be out. Please only travel in a properly outfitted vehicle.
