Tractor Trailer Crash Leads To Lengthy Delays On 321 Thursday

A tractor-trailer crash lead to lengthy traffic delays on highway 321 just outside of Blowing Rock on Thursday.

 According to Watauga County resident Andy Pennestri, who stopped to assist at the scene, the driver of truck was hauling Christmas trees when he lost breaks traveling down the mountain and crashed. The driver, from Macon, Georgia, was pinned under the steering wheel but was conscious the whole time.

Pennestri tells WataugaOnline.com that it took about an hour to get the driver out and that the driver “was doing good upon extrication.” The accident occurred around 5:45 pm and took several hours to fully clean up.

The driver suffered some facial injuries and injuries to the legs after being pinned under the steering wheel for that period of time. The driver was transported to a local hospital in Caldwell County, according to the Caldwell Journal. Pennestri said that Patterson Fire, Blowing Rock Fire, Caldwell EMS and other agencies responded to the scene.
