March 17, 2017 9:11am – Fire crews from Blowing Rock and Boone were dispatched to a late night structure fire in Sampson on Thursday night. The fire, near 1500 Sampson Road, was reported before 9:30pm. According to a Watauga County Sheriff's report, Deputies arrived and during their initial investigation determined the fire may have been purposely set.

Taylor Marsh, Watauga County Fire Marshal, tells WataugaOnline.com that the fire is “suspicious” in nature. The structure was an old abandoned garage with no power or insurance, Marsh adds. The structure was heavily damaged and the investigation is ongoing.
