Temps Below Zero Still Not Enough To Break All Time Records

As the High Country experiences bitterly cold temperatures it still was not enough to break all time record levels. With a morning low of -8 in Boone on Tuesday morning (January 7, 2014) it missed being in the top 5 coldest days by 4 degrees.

-24 is the all time record for Boone (since 1980) set on January 21, 1985, followed by -15 (Jan 19, 1994), -14 (Jan 20, 1994), -14 (Jan 20, 1985) & -12 (Jan 11, 1982), according to the State Climate Office.

For all of Watauga County the Tuesday morning mark in Boone missed being in the top 5 by 10 degrees
