Sergeant Christopher D. Ward bridge dedication

A bridge dedication was held Friday morning in honor of fallen Watauga County Sergeant Christopher D. Ward. A ceremony took place at the bridge, located in Sugar Grove, on Highway 321 which crosses over the Watauga River. Ward and K-9 Deputy Logan Fox were killed during a welfare check in April 2021.

Born in 1984, Ward was a member of the Sugar Grove community and attended Watauga High School. 
He began his law enforcement career with the Beech Mountain Police Department in 2013 before joining the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office in 2018.

N.C. Governor Roy Cooper sent his personal regards to the family and friends of Ward: “Sergeant Ward died a hero and his sacrifice will not be forgotten, nor will his love and dedication to his family and his community. This bridge will serve as a lasting testament to his memory.”

Mike Fox – Chair of the Board of Transportation for the State of North Carolina and Watauga County native, Pastor Eric Cornett, Commissioner Braxton Eggers, Preacher Derick Wilson, Shane Triplett, Pastor Bradley Swift and Rev. David Ward
