Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has announced the recall of 494,000 medium and heavy-duty Ram pickup trucks to inspect and replace, if needed, their water pumps.
The recall is for 2013-2017 model year Ram 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks with 6.7-liter diesel engines. 443,000 of those vehicles are in the United States.
The company says that customer feedback prompted an investigation that discovered certain trucks are equipped with a water-pump bearing that, after exposure to certain conditions, may overheat and potentially cause an engine-compartment fire. The company statement goes on to say that FCA US is unaware of any related injuries or accidents.
Impacted water pumps may activate a warning light in an affected vehicle’s instrument cluster. Customers are urged to consult their dealers whenever they observe warning lights. Affected customers will be advised when service becomes available.
