Notable Passing – Former Local Bank President & Past President Of Boone Chamber Passes

A former local bank President and past President of the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce passed away on Saturday.

According to Hampton Funeral Home, John McGrew Brubaker, age 67, of Sunset Beach, North Carolina a former resident of Boone, passed away Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Bolivia, North Carolina.

He was the Former President and CEO of High Country Bank in Boone, NC, which he helped found in 1998. After High Country Bank was later acquired by Yadkin Valley Bank, he served as Regional President for bank operations in Watauga and Avery Counties.

He was a Boone Area Chamber of Commerce Board Member and Past President of the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce and Boone Sunrise Rotary Club. Other notable local positions include, Past Chair of the Watauga Economic Commission and Watauga County United Way; Past Board of Directors Member and Treasurer of the Watauga Arts Council; and Past Board of Directors Member of the Watauga Education Committee.
