BANNER ELK – Contract crews for the N.C. Department of Transportation will temporarily close N.C. 105 between Broadstone Road and Old Shulls Mill Road during an overnight operation this week.
Beginning at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12, crews from Wright Brothers Construction Company Inc. will perform a blasting operation on the slope adjacent to the roadway followed by intermittent road closures to remove rock and debris.
Crews anticipate the closures extending to no more than 30 minutes at a time until the full reopening of the road at 6 a.m. on Thursday.
Similar operations have been successfully performed in previous weeks as contract crews work to replace the 69-year-old bridge over the Watauga River.
On-site flagging crews will be in the area directing motorists.
Drivers should expect delays and use caution when approaching the work zone.
