Multiple departments respond to overnight Elk Creek Road fire

Multiple agencies responded to an overnight structure fire today.

The fire, at 3720 Elk Creek Road, was dispatched out at 12:19 am. The first arriving units found heavy fire on the 2nd floor, according to Watauga County Fire Marshal Shane Garland.

One occupant was home at the time. No injuries were reported.

There is extensive damage to the structure, according to Garland. He would like to remind everyone that now is a good time to make sure that smoke detectors are working properly.

The cause is under investigation.

Stewart Simmons Fire, Deep Gap Fire, Watauga Medics, Watauga Sheriff's Office, and Watauga Fire Marshal's Office responded to the scene.
