On Monday, February 17, 2025, the Avery County Sheriff's Office was notified of two missing
individuals. The two were reported missing by family members and were entered as missing
into a national database. A search was initiated in an attempt to locate both mother and child.
On the morning of February 18, 2025, the victim's vehicle was located overturned in a creek off
US Hwy 19 E near the Cranberry community. Both victims were located deceased inside the
vehicle as the result of a motor vehicle collision. Names of the victims will not be released until
all appropriate notifications are made. The North Carolina State Highway will be conducting the
motor vehicle collision investigation.
The thoughts and prayers of the Avery County Sheriff's Office are with the families and loved
ones of the victims at this tragic time.
