BANNER ELK, N.C. — A new ranking from U.S. News and World Report has placed Lees-McRae College among the best private colleges in North Carolina. The college has landed in the 14th spot on the organization's new Regional Colleges South Top Private Colleges list, breaking the top 15 along with just five other private North Carolina institutions.
The college also earned the 16th spot on this year's Best Regional Colleges South list, the 48th spot on this year's Regional Colleges South Social Mobility list, and the 21st spot on this year's Regional Colleges South Best Value Schools list, three spots above its 24th place ranking in 2026.
