Local Road Impacts Due To Heavy Rain & Flooding

Several roads in the area will be impacted for varying lengths of time due to the recent heavy rain and flooding. Repair times will also depend on the weather. This list will be updated as more information is received.

Among those roads are:

North Water Street in downtown Boone. Storm drainage stopped up and undermined the street in several areas causing pavement damage. Repairs should be made by Wednesday 5pm, according to NCDOT.

Poplar Grove Road near 105  (SR-1102), Both directions to be impacted due to replacing pipe.  Project is scheduled for Wednesday 05/23/2018 8:00 am thru Friday 05/25/2018 5:00 pm.

Watauga River Road (SR-1116) ,near Long Ridge Road, in both directions. Roadway closed at  0.20 mile east of Long Ridge SR1120 due to Watauga River flooding on to and wash out Watauga River Rd. SR1116.

Rominger Road (SR-1122), near Watauga River Road,  in both directions. Lanes narrowed. Bridge 172 was closed due to a flooding event on 5/19/18.  Bridge is closed indefinitely until Bridge Maintenance Crews can get work scheduled and completed.  

Highway 221 between Blowing Rock and Linville in Avery County near Grandfather Mountain. Heavy rains caused slide and roadway is impassable. More information at this link.
