With Boone reaching 86 degrees unofficially again on Thursday, at the Watauga Medical Center reporting station, it marked the 17th time this month of reaching or surpassing 80 degrees. Through July 21st that is the most number of 80 degree plus days since at least 2005. The next closest years are 2010 & 2006 with 16 days through the same period.
The least amount of 80 degree plus days in July occurred in 2009, where the mark of 80 was recorded just one time all month.
Below is compiled weather data from the Watauga Medical Center station, noting the number of days of reaching at least 80 degrees between July 1-July 21 from 2005 until 2016. The average high temperature for the entire month from 1929-1980 was 78.35.
