The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning for the High Country through Wednesday. Gusts close to 60 mph may be possible in some locations. The full Warning statement is below:
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BLACKSBURG HAS ISSUED A HIGH WIND
WARNING…WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS EVENING TO NOON EST
WEDNESDAY.
* LOCATIONS…HIGH COUNTRY OF NORTH CAROLINA INCLUDING GRAYSON
COUNTY VIRGINIA.
* HAZARDS…VERY STRONG WINDS.
* WINDS…WEST 20 TO 35 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 60 MPH ESPECIALLY
ACROSS THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS.
* TIMING…BEGINNING WITH THE FRONTAL PASSAGE THIS EVENING…
WITH THE STRONGEST GUSTS OCCURRING DURING THE OVERNIGHT HOURS.
* IMPACTS…STRONG WINDS MAY BLOW DOWN TREES AND POWER LINES.
TRAVEL WILL BECOME HAZARDOUS ON HIGHER MOUNTAIN ROADWAYS AND IN
LOCATIONS WHERE WINDS ARE CHANNELED.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
A HIGH WIND WARNING MEANS A HAZARDOUS HIGH WIND EVENT IS EXPECTED
OR OCCURRING. SUSTAINED WIND SPEEDS OF AT LEAST 40 MPH OR GUSTS
OF 58 MPH OR MORE CAN LEAD TO PROPERTY DAMAGE.
