Flood Warning for Watauga County until 10pm – Thursday Oct 11, 2018

The National Weather Service in BLACKSBURG has issued a

* Flood Warning for…
Watauga County in northwestern North Carolina…

* Until 1000 PM EDT

* At 401 PM EDT, multiple road and bridge closures were reported
across the county due to heavy rain earlier in the day. While the
heaviest rain has passed these impacts will persist for the next
several hours. Therefore, this areal flood warning will replace
the expiring flash flood warning. Six or more inches of rain have
fallen in portions of the warned area since yesterday.

* Please continue to heed any road closures until authorities
indicate that they are safe to pass.
* Some locations that will experience flooding include…
Boone…
Blowing Rock…
Beech Mountain…
Foscoe…
and Sugar Grove.

This includes The following Location Appalachian State University.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying
spots.

When it is safe to do so, please send your reports of flooding,
including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National Weather Service
