…FLOOD ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 3 PM EDT THIS AFTERNOON…
* WHAT…Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
* WHERE…In northwest North Carolina, Alleghany NC and Ashe.
* WHEN…Until 300 PM EDT.
* IMPACTS…Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…
– At 104 PM EDT, An area of light to moderate rain continued to
spread southeast into Alleghany County NC from southwest
Virginia. Much of Alleghany County experienced 2 to 4 inches
of rainfall on Saturday. Additional rainfall of 1 to 1.5
inches is possible over the next couple of hours. This
additional rainfall combined with saturated ground from
previous rainfall could result in minor flooding within the
advisory area. Ponding of water can also be expected,
especially in low-lying areas on roadways.
– This includes the following streams and drainages…
Brush Creek, Elk Creek, Grassy Creek, Elkin Creek, East Prong
Roaring River, Gully Creek, Crab Fork, Glade Creek, Basin
Creek, Big Pine Creek, Cove Creek and Little River.
Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 1.5 inches are expected
over the area. This additional rain will result in minor
flooding.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.
